In the wake of Microsoft teasing their ‘Ultimate Xbox 360 Sale‘, believed to be kicking off on Xbox Live Marketplace later this week, rival, Sony has taken their usual stance of not wanting to be outdone!
Today, Sony has announced that they will not only be holding their own massive PlayStation sale this month, but that they will also be holding more than one sale throughout the month of July, on both the PS3’s and Vita’s PlayStation Store! As if that weren’t enough, savings go as high as 60% off for regular PlayStation Network members, and 80% off for PlayStation Plus members! That’s quite the bargain!
Like we said when reporting on the Xbox 360 sale, we at Eggplante hate to see gamers burdened by heavy wallets. That goes just as much for the PlayStation crowd as it does for the Xbox following! Thus, we’ve again compiled a complete list of the games on sale, when they will be on sale, their aggregate review rankings according to GameRankings.com (in this case, for the PlayStation version, if the game is multi-platform), and of course, our personal recommendations, denoted by .
Unlike in the case of the Xbox 360 Sale, Sony has revealed exactly how cheap the games will be as well, so we can provide exact prices for each promotion too. What a bonus! Now, you’ll get an even better idea of what you can accommodate in your gaming budget during this great month to be part of the PlayStation family!

We have to say that Microsoft has a few more smash hits on offer, and recent ones at that! Not only that, but so many lacklustre movie tie-in games being part of the Sony sale just seems rather baffling to us!
Still, discounting so many HD collections is certainly generous! With a PlayStation Plus membership, you can get HD revamps of every Ratchet & Clank game and Prince of Persia game to grace the PS2 (if you don’t count Ratchet: Deadlocked anyway), and that’s on top of Shadow of the Colossus HD being on the cheap for the first time too. Not bad!
It looks like quantity-over-quality here, and even then, Sony’s superb indie and digital download game lineup got the shaft, as did most of their best portable offerings on both PSP and Vita. Still, if you missed any of the games we recommend in particular, now is the best time to grab them, especially if you already have a PlayStation Plus membership!
Once again, for any news on sales, promotions and noteworthy discounts on the hottest PlayStation games, keep your watchful eyes on Eggplante!
