In November, we mentioned that Boy Meets World was number five on our list of Best 90s Sitcoms. Around that time, it was reported that a follow-up series called Girl Meets World was in the works, and both Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel would reprise their roles as Cory and Topanga, respectively.
Today, Disney has announced that its own Disney Channel would be picking up the series for a full season beginning production this summer. The show will begin airing sometime in 2014, though no official schedule for release has been announced. We’re not sure how to feel about this move, seeing as Disney doesn’t have as much prowess as, say, CBS or NBC, and we’re betting more people will tune into this who were fans of the original show. It’ll be interesting to see if any of those people watch Disney Channel.
Boy Meets World creator Michael Jacobs will be producing the follow-up series and while nothing has been announced, we expect to see some of the original cast to at least have a cameo or two in the upcoming series.
We do know that William Daniels will be reprising his role of Mr. Feeny in the show, though it’s not confirmed whether it will be a lasting role, or if he’ll be in for a few episodes. Our guess is that Daniels’ character will be actually killed off in the first season to both maintain the heavy subject matter the original series tended to have alongside its comedic moments, as well as provide closure for the character before the real-life 86 year old actually passes away.
Stay tuned for all the latest as the story develops, and take a look at some of the first shots of the show in production!
