So they’re not actually calling their new peripherals the acronym line or anything, but you wouldn’t know by the names of their new products. At CES this past week, Mad Catz introduced four new gamer-centric peripherals. The M.O.U.S.9 Wireless Mouse, F.R.E.Q.M Mobile Stereo Headset, R.A.T.M Wireless Mobile Gaming Mouse, and C.T.R.L.R Wireless GamePad.
All the peripherals have the usual Mad Catz flare in that each offers something very unique.
The M.O.U.S.9 Wireless Mouse allows the user to choose between separate profiles for productivity applications like Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop and has a sensor that will supposedly track on any surface, including glass. We’d love to put this thing to the test on a mirror and see how it fares, though.
The F.R.E.Q.M Mobile Stereo Headset is a lightweight headset designed for extended use in front of your computer and on the go, with a folding design and an aluminum rather than plastic chassis. The headset also comes with two cables, each with different inline controls, so you can make sure the headset will have all the functions you need for the device you’re using it on.
The R.A.T.M Wireless Mobile Gaming Mouse is another mouse in the lineup, this one being the first to combine a gaming-grade laser sensor with Bluetooth Smart technology for incredible battery life. It’s got 12 action buttons, 10 of which are user-programmable, and a ridiculous 6400DPI dual-laser for precise tracking. The software powering this thing is also brand new, with a drag-and-drop interface so you can easily program your macros. This is not a full-sized mouse, so if you do a lot of gaming on a plane or a train, this might be the best solution for you.
Finally, the C.T.R.L.R Wireless GamePad is probably the coolest named of the bunch, and brings console controller quality to any compatible device with low latency. It’s got all the buttons you’d expect from a console controller (of the non-motion sensing variety), including shoulder buttons and triggers, as well as media controls like the OnLive controller we still wish we had.
All the wireless products use Mad Catz’s new GameSmart technology, which is a new standard created to let developers utilize the specific functions of the peripherals in their apps. All products will work with PC or Mac, as well as mobile devices, where applicable.
Mad Catz is going to be launching their new peripherals in a range of colours in early 2013. Prices have not yet been announced.
