The oft-rumoured and recently teased PlayStation 5 Pro was officially unveiled today, during Sony’s hardware focused State of Play.
Here’s what you need to know about it:
- Upgraded GPU: Features 67% more Compute Units and 28% faster memory, enabling up to 45% faster rendering.
- Advanced Ray Tracing: Enhanced ray tracing for more dynamic light reflection and refraction. This allows rays to be cast at double, and sometimes triple, the speeds of the current PS5.
- AI-Driven Upscaling: PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution for super sharp image quality. This uses machine learning to add “an extraordinary amount of” detail.
- PS5 Pro Game Boost: Improved performance for over 8,500 backwards compatible PS4 games.
- Latest Wireless Technology: Wi-Fi 7 support, VRR and 8K gaming abilities.
- Compatibility: Works with existing PS5 accessories, including DualSense Edge and PlayStation VR2.
- Included: 2TB SSD, DualSense wireless controller and Astro’s Playroom pre-installed.
- Disc-less Option: Option to purchase a disc drive separately.
The PlayStation 5 Pro maintains the design of the current PS5 console family, and promises to integrate seamlessly with current accessories and network services. It will go up for preorder on September 26th, and will then launch on November 7th. The cost in Canada will be $959.99.
