Konami has confirmed to Eurogamer, that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots 25th Anniversary Edition will not be coming to Xbox 360; the game will remain a PlayStation 3 exclusive title. Many have been speculating that this is indeed false, due to this listing on Mighty Ape, a New Zealand-based online gaming retailer.
The title of the game itself is misleading, as Guns of the Patriots only hit the PlayStation 3 in 2008, but no matter, as the fact remains it won’t be coming to the Xbox 360.
It appears that someone has photoshopped the Xbox 360 logo onto the PlayStation 3 box art to make it look like you’re able to get it on Microsoft’s console. However, the website states that the product is no longer available. A Konami representative said, “It’s a welcome return to the rumour, but there are no plans to release Metal Gear Solid 4 on the Xbox 360.”
The game is due out in December in the UK for £20, the equivalent to about $30 US. Konami hasn’t mentioned anything about it being released in the United States or anywhere else, which is a shame for those that live elsewhere.
Being the 25th anniversary celebration for the Metal Gear Solid series, Konami announced Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, and a lengthy feature film based on the games. Although Konami has confirmed that the game is not going to be released for Xbox 360, there is always a chance something will change in the future, perhaps with a sort of anthology bundle.
It is also a bit odd that Konami has decided not to release Anniversary Edition in the United States so far as we can tell, but this could just be a bit more misinformation than we already have. It is only logical that Konami would at least attempt distribution worldwide, but we’ll just have to wait and see what they are actually going to do at this point.
