The leak was correct, and so were the assumptions made about it. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is being remade.
During a stream celebrating the series’ impressive anniversary, Square Enix revealed that Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion will come to consoles this winter. As such, a game that faded into obscurity after releasing on handheld only will soon reach a much wider audience.
Released back in 2007, Crisis Core was a PSP exclusive action-RPG, which told the story of Zack Fair. He and his ties to Cloud and Aerith were fleshed out in a game that took place up to seven years prior to the events of Final Fantasy VII.
From the looks of things, Crisis Core: Final Fantasu VII Reunion is using the same engine and tech as its big brother, the Final Fantasy VII Remake, of which it acts as a prequel.
Expect to be able to play this one on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch and PC.
