Bethesda has issued a press release informing gamers that both DOOM Eternal and The Elder Scrolls Online are heading to next-gen consoles. As such, those with interest will be able to purchase and play either, or both, of those popular games on Xbox Series X or PS5.
Those who’ve already purchased and enjoyed the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 versions of those games will also be entitled to a free upgrade, when the next-gen ones become available. Thus, there’s no need to worry about having to buy them again.
What’s also interesting and important to note, though, is that the teams behind each title are working to make them backwards compatible on the new, upcoming hardware. That way, people who decide not to upgrade to the enhanced versions will still be able to play the original ones on their new consoles.
As of right now, there is no word on what the upgrades will be, or what form they’ll take. We assume that the games will look sharper, and perhaps run better, with improved framerates, but that’s just speculation. The press release states that that information will be released later, along with release windows. It also states that other current-gen games may be ported to the new consoles, and that anything that is will be made part of the aforementioned free upgrade promotion.
