Square Enix shows more of Marvel’s Avengers; confirms free upgrade to PS5 or Xbox Series X versions

Earlier today, Square Enix presented a brief livestream that focused on their upcoming Marvel’s Avengers video game. In the process, they showed footage from one of its campaign missions, and also introduced co-operative War Zone missions.

The aforementioned campaign mission features Thor, who must do battle against enemies while atop an aircraft carrier. All the while, a rainstorm swells around them. This stage was referred to as being a ‘Hero Mission,’ and those are said to push the game’s story forward.

Said story will feature MODOK as its main villain, but we’re sure that more familiar evildoers will make devious appearances.

War Zone, meanwhile, is the title’s multiplayer mode that had been hinted at previously. Through it, players can team up with friends or AI partners and battle enemies in “wide open spaces.” As they progress, folks will unlock new customization items, including skills, skins and more. This will allow for each person’s Iron Man, Thor or whomever to play differently from those of others. In fact, there will be ‘dozens’ of unlockable cosmetic outfits, and some will only be available through the in-game marketplace.

Square Enix also revealed that Marvel’s Avengers is in the works for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. This isn’t meant to scare anyone away from buying the current gen versions, though, because those who do will receive a free upgrade to the next-gen ones whenever they’re released.

Marvel’s Avengers will assemble on Xbox One and PS4 on September 4th. The game was originally expected to release on May 15th, but received a months long delay.
