We’re not huge Rihanna fans even though it seems that every one of her songs gets stuck in our heads at some point. However, when her latest song titled “Diamonds” hit the airwaves a few weeks ago, we were pretty impressed. It seemed mellower and more soulful than her traditional mix of rap and pop, and it hit more of an emotional chord than we were used to.
Needless to say, we’ve just been blown away again by the same song.
YouTube newcomer and cover artist Virginia to Vegas did a cover of Rihanna’s new song featuring Vic Ns with Brenda Mullen, also a new act, as accompaniment. In short, the song is an absolute sensation. Incredible videography aside (although you should still watch their video in HD), the switch between male and female vocal talent is what makes the song.
Virginia to Vegas’s cover is slightly more upbeat than the original song once it gets going, although you wouldn’t know it from the soft piano introduction.
There’s no point in talking about it too much until you see the video. We’ve posted both Rihanna’s version as well as the cover by Virginia to Vegas because you really should hear both versions.
And while you’re at it, take a look at Virginia to Vegas’s other covers; they’re all excellent quality renditions of the original songs and each worth a listen.
