Begin building your SimCity on March 5th, 2013

Maxis and Electronic Arts have officially announced SimCity‘s launch date to be March 5th, 2013.

The date (as you might expect is a Tuesday) is actually a few weeks off of the game’s predicted February launch timeframe, but not so far off that we really care all that much. Games get delayed all the time, so a game that’s been delayed less than a week after a month that only has 28 days to begin with is practically ahead of schedule!

If you recall, when we first got a glimpse of this game, it reignited our love for the franchise. Now, with an exact launch date, we’re getting even more excited.

The game will be available in a physical retail disc as well as a downloadable title. The retail version will be available only as the Limited Edition package, while the downloadable title will be either the Limited Edition release or the Digital Deluxe version of the game which will include the French, English, and German City Sets. There’s no word at this point as to whether you can get those sets individually later on, but we’re sure Maxis will make them available at some point.

There are a ton of great new concepts in SimCity this time around, including a fluctuating world economy dependent on supply and demand, industry and resource specializations, as well as new data visualization techniques.

Multiplayer will also play a big role in the game as it takes on more of a community component (no pun intended there) and the game will require an internet connection to validate authenticity via EA’s Origin service.

Mark your calendars for March 5th, 2013 as SimCity is set to be the next big game that makes time fly right by as it immerses you in its virtual world.
