A series of cryptic tweets about Call of Duty have been posted in the last few days, potentially revealing more about the franchise’s future.
Robert Bowling, currently Creative Consultant for Electronic Arts, having previously worked on multiple entries in the Call of Duty franchise, including the entire Modern Warfare series, posted the following on May 9:

Perhaps the most important piece here is the last ten seconds of the video, in which you hear radio chatter from Modern Warfare 2‘s soundtrack screaming, “We are leaving D.C.! I repeat, we are leaving D.C.!”

If this isn’t a direct reference to Modern Warfare 2, we don’t know what is.
When Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare launched in 2016, Special Editions of the game launched with Modern Warfare Remastered in tow. That marked the nine-year anniversary of the original game, what was then Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, as it released in 2007.
Two years later, in 2009, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released. As we head into 2019, marking the ten year anniversary of the original game, as well as the fact that the entirety of Modern Warfare franchise has always been developed by Infinity Ward, it makes sense that this year’s title will launch alongside a remastered version of the venerable favourite.
Raven Software, the developer responsible for Modern Warfare Remastered, has largely been largely silent since 2016, whereas their portfolio of works prior to that included development on virtually every Call of Duty title prior, beginning with Black Ops in 2010. It does stand to reason that Raven Software has a big project in the works, and that project just may be perfectly timed for the 10 year anniversary of Modern Warfare 2.
Expect to hear more about Call of Duty‘s 2019 entry at E3 2019, and what is looking to be all but a guaranteed remaster of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in the coming weeks.
