Sony has announced that Raising Kratos, a documentary about the three-year development of 2018’s God of War will soon be released to the company’s PlayStation YouTube channel.
“It’s only fitting on the one-year Anniversary, we’re excited to share this peak behind the curtain of God of War’s very own Santa Monica Studio with a trailer for our upcoming film, Raising Kratos,” a post on the PlayStation blog said. “This full-length feature documentary, coming very soon to PlayStation YouTube, is an exploration into the massive undertaking it took to change the course of the God of War franchise.”
The trailer shows interviews with the game’s director, Cory Barlog, as well as his team at Santa Monica Studio, and the actors who played Kratos, Atreus, and Freya.
The documentary takes 400 hours of footage shot over the course of development, and distills it down to an as-yet-unknown length, to show off just how trying the process of creating a game such as God of War can be.
The work has clearly paid off, as the game sold over five million copies in its first month and has since gone on to eclipse the six million mark, according to VGChartz. Perhaps most importantly, the franchise contributed this moment to the gaming community.
The final clip in the trailer looked to be all-new content, potentially hinting at the next entry in the God of War franchise, however Barlog responded to conspiracy theory fans on Twitter, saying:

Now, not to hop on the conspiracy theory train, but this could still be a front until the actual trailer drops. That trailer may not have made it in time for the disc printing deadline, but it could’ve easily been a downloadable update or patch as is quite common. Perhaps the trailer will show us what that clip really is. Or, you know, we could take Cory at face value and trust the guy.
God of War earned one of Eggplante’s highest review scores at 94%, and is still one of the PlayStation 4’s best-reviewed games.
Raising Kratos will arrive on PlayStation’s YouTube channel “soon.”
