Despite any missteps made with last year’s now-infamous Star Wars: Battlefront II, EA and its subsidiaries are moving full steam ahead with the Star Wars video game license. One of the studios under EA’s umbrella, Respawn Entertainment, best known for their work on the Titanfall games, is one such developer working on a new Star Wars game project, and at this year’s EA Play conference, Respawn boss, Vince Zampella was addressed to answer a couple of questions about Respawn’s mysterious Star Wars game.
While no gameplay or even pre-rendered footage could be shown, Zampella did confirm that Respawn’s Star Wars game is titled ‘Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order‘, and as the title suggests, it will be set in the, “Dark times” between the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. The game will be a third-person action-adventure title involving the Jedi being hunted down and exterminated during the rise of the Galactic Empire, and appears to be unrelated to the other Star Wars action-adventure game that was in development at now-shuttered EA subsidiary, Visceral Games, which is now allegedly being re-tooled into a more live service-oriented open-world game. Back when Respawn first teased Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order in 2016, before its title was made public, they also confirmed that former God of War III director, Stig Asmussen would be overseeing the project.
The only other definitive bit of information gleaned about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is that it will allow players to wield a lightsaber, though this may be predictable, given that the game’s protagonists will be Jedi Knights on the run from the Empire. Zampella did confirm however that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is targeting a Fall 2019 release, so it’s pretty much certain that we’ll get a full gameplay showcase of it during next year’s EA Play conference. Platforms for the game are also currently unknown, though it’s extremely probable that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will release across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
