Telltale Games is getting the jump on this year’s San Diego Comic-Con before it properly starts tomorrow, announcing successor seasons to several of their episodic comic book-inspired adventure games! Telltale’s The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us and Batman will be getting follow-up seasons in the near future, with The Walking Dead adapted from the universe of the acclaimed Image Comics series of the same name, while Batman is of course adapted from the stories of DC Comics’ superhero of the same name, with DC’s graphic novel imprint, Vertigo having published Fables, the fairy tale-inspired dark fantasy comic book series that The Wolf Among Us serves as a prequel to.
Of these new confirmed seasons, Batman’s follow-up season will be debuting first, as soon as a few weeks from now, in fact! The sophomore season, which is being titled ‘Batman: The Enemy Within‘, will release its first episode on August 8th, for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with iOS and Android versions of the game set to follow at some point later in 2017. A reveal teaser released today for Batman: The Enemy Within confirms that famous Batman nemesis, The Riddler will be making his debut in the new season, with Batman’s main arch-nemesis, The Joker, known currently in the series as ‘John Doe’, also set to be featured in the new episodes. Troy Baker is confirmed to reprise his lead role as Bruce Wayne/Batman as well, with Anthony Ingruber to portray John Doe/The Joker. It also seems apparent that, as per Telltale tradition, decisions made in the original Batman season will naturally carry over to the second season.
The Wolf Among Us, meanwhile, originally debuted its first season back in 2013, which ran for five episodes into 2014. Originally releasing for PC, Mac, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, The Wolf Among Us later expanded to iOS, Android, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The second season for The Wolf Among Us meanwhile doesn’t yet have an official title nor confirmed platforms, but a brief teaser released by Telltale confirms that Adam Harrington and Erin Yvette will reprise their lead roles of Bigby and Snow, respectively. It’s likely that, as with other modern Telltale games, the sophomore season for The Wolf Among Us will debut on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and possibly iOS and Android, but regardless, this season won’t begin until some point in 2018.
Finally, the upcoming fourth season of The Walking Dead will be a bittersweet one for fans, as Telltale has confirmed that it will be the last season for their highly acclaimed Walking Dead games. This season is confirmed to be debuting on PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, iOS and Android in 2018, and will once again star Melissa Hutchison as returning protagonist, Clementine. Interestingly, it was only a few weeks ago that the previous season, The Walking Dead: A New Frontier, wrapped its own five-episode run.
Telltale currently has two ongoing episodic adventure games in progress, being two episodes into a Marvel Comics-inspired Guardians of the Galaxy game, as well as having recently debuted the first episode for their family-friendly Minecraft: Story Mode – Season Two. Telltale had also previously announced a second season for their Game of Thrones game, adapted from HBO’s highly beloved fantasy drama television series, though this sophomore Game of Thrones season currently remains without any kind of release window.
