Bethesda announces DOOM VFR & Fallout 4 VR

If you’ve ever wanted to fight against DOOM‘s hideous demons in glorious virtual reality, or enter the world of Fallout 4 in the same fashion, then you’ll be happy with these announcements and their complementary trailers.

During its Bethesdaland E3 presser (which was the weirdest and least informative one I’ve ever watched, if I’m being honest), Bethesda Softworks confirmed that both DOOM and Fallout 4 are headed to VR devices. The former will land on PlayStation VR and the HTC Vive, whereas the latter will apparently only be released on the Vive if our sources are correct. Both will also offer interactive experiences that are slightly different from their more traditional peers, although one looks a lot better than the other.

DOOM VFR, which I believe stands for DOOM “V-Fucking-R, resembles DOOM 4 but plays a bit differently. For starters, your hands are represented by glowing fists at the onset of the game, and you’re given the ability to teleport around its environments, which will allow you to jump and pivot while shooting at your demonic foes. It does look pretty good, though, and has the potential to be a must own app for the fledgling VR devices. Still not enough for me to buy one, however, given the insane prices.

Fallout 4 VR, on the other hand, doesn’t look like it’ll be as good as DOOM VFR. Why is that? Well, it looks like Bethesda simply took the core game and turned it into a VR experience. That’s not a promising thing, because having to deal with motion controls in order to interact with things in a traditional Fallout game would surely be a pain in the ass. And that looks to be what players will need to do in this particular experiment.

Then again, maybe I’ll end up being wrong, and it’ll receive glowing reviews. Who knows?
