UPDATE: Activision has clarified that “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered” is currently only going to be sold to people who buy the Legacy, Legacy Pro or Digital Deluxe Editions of “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.” Naturally, this has not sat well with many fans.

After several recent teases by publisher, Activision, and an accidental title outing on the PlayStation Store recently, Activision has now officially drawn back the veil on this year’s Call of Duty game. As that PlayStation Store leak seemed to claim, the game will be titled ‘Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare‘, and will take the series into yet another new setting and futuristic time period, this time incorporating battles from beyond Earth’s atmosphere, in the cold darkness of outer space, with space combat apparently being a major focus.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is being developed by Infinity Ward, who previously made Call of Duty: Ghosts in 2013, and it looks like the Call of Duty: Ghosts storyline isn’t being continued, despite the cliffhanger ending from 2013’s game. Instead, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s story campaign will unfold from the perspective of Captain Reyes, a Tier 1 Special Operations pilot and soldier, who will assist the United Nations Space Alliance, an international effort to begin human colonization in space, as they begin a war with a rogue faction of soldiers called the Settlement Defense Front. Infinity Ward has also claimed that, for the first time in the Call of Duty series’ history, a hub world will be featured in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Obviously, the game will include a competitive online multiplayer suite with several play modes as well, along with the return of fan-favourite co-operative mode, Zombies, though Infinity Ward isn’t yet revealing much info about either.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is set to release on November 4th of this year, and will come to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Despite the previous Call of Duty: Black Ops III managing to push out last-gen Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 ports, it looks like Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is exclusively being made for current-gen platforms at this point. This is likely because the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops III were mostly ignored and heavily criticized, due to being ugly, performing very poorly, and omitting the game’s story campaign entirely, only featuring the online multiplayer suite and Zombies modes. Even then, the game’s DLC expansions reach the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game even later than the Xbox One and PC builds, which already receive DLC about a month after the game’s PlayStation 4 version exclusively gets it first, due to a revised marketing deal with Sony.
Alongside the announcement of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Activision also announced a remaster of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, aptly titled ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered‘, which will be released digitally on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at the same time as Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, though it sadly seems to be skipping PC. The game will re-release the series’ 2007 darling, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for current platforms, with a visually touched-up version of that game’s story campaign, as well as ten maps from the classic offering in its own online multiplayer suite. Better still is that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered will be awarded to players for free, should they pick up the special Legacy Edition or Deluxe Edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
