It’s been speculated that virtually the entire Justice League will appear in some shape or form in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, after word came down that both Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Ray Fisher’s Cyborg will make brief appearances in next year’s first official expansion of the DC Extended Universe on the big screen. Speculation next turned to The Flash, who will be portrayed by Ezra Miller in both the currently confirmed crossover Justice League movies, as well as a dedicated Flash movie in 2018. Now, as confirmed by the movie’s costume designer, Michael Wilkinson, a scene was shot with Miller’s Flash for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, albeit a very brief one.
“I’m not really at liberty to talk about The Flash right now, but [he’s someone] you’ll be seeing in the future in our films” Wilkinson begins, speaking in a Spanish interview with Omelette, and corroborated by comicbookmovie.com. “You do get a glimpse of him, of course, in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” he continues.
This seems to confirm speculation that Ezra Miller shot a surprise cameo for the movie, as a way of teasing The Flash’s first proper appearance in Justice League: Part One in 2017. This seems to indicate that the only major Justice League founder not confirmed to appear in some fashion in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice at this point (barring any cameos, for Flash or otherwise, getting cut in the eleventh hour), is Green Lantern, who has yet to be cast, in any incarnation, despite Chris Pine recently being rumoured to be up for the role, before taking the role of Steve Trevor in 2017’s Wonder Woman movie. Rumour has it that 2020’s Green Lantern Corps. will star both the Hal Jordan and John Stewart incarnations of Green Lantern, with other Green Lantern heroes from DC lore having smaller parts.
While he’s teasing surprises, Wilkinson also confirmed speculation that the seemingly dystopian nightmare scenario that was teased in several trailers for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice does take place in Bruce Wayne’s mind. It’s meant as a way to give viewers insight into the obsessive quality of Bruce’s detective skills and paranoia, as he immediately begins to ponder the dark implications of a world where Superman is allowed to operate unchecked, and eventually conquers humanity as a result.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theatres on March 25th, 2016.
