If you’re looking forward to next year’s remake of the original Ratchet & Clank game, then good news! The release date is now in sight! Insomniac Games took to the stage at this year’s PlayStation Experience keynote to announce that the anticipated remake will hit PlayStation 4 on April 12th, 2016.
On top of confirming the release date, Insomniac showed off some new gameplay as well, demonstrating just how much the game has been revamped in contrast to the original. An all-new nighttime section was shown off, with Ratchet first discovering and rescuing Clank, and then running him back to the garage he lives in, while taking on hostile aliens. Brand new weapons like the Pixelizer and Groovitron were displayed, which weren’t present in the original game, as were the more fluid, modernized controls in contrast to the original PlayStation 2 game from 2002. The cutscenes have also been noticeably re-tooled, adding new dialogue and jokes, along with cutting-edge new graphics, rendered at native 1080p resolution.
The Ratchet & Clank remake will arrive a few weeks before the Ratchet & Clank feature film from Focus Features, Rainmaker Entertainment and Blockade Entertainment comes to theatres next year, on April 29th, 2016. The remade game was originally supposed to launch this year, but was delayed to add new refinements and content, as well as the chance to launch around the same time as the movie.
