After taking the opportunity to show off The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes at Gamescom, Nintendo confirmed when we can expect the game to launch. The anticipated 3DS game comes to retail and the 3DS eShop on October 23rd.
A slightly different take on established Legend of Zelda gameplay, The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes utilizes a three-player co-op mechanic, with players teaming up to solve puzzles and proceed through an array of dungeons, which can only be completed through collaboration. This is exemplified by a ‘totem’ mechanic, which will allow the three Link’s to stand on top of one another in a totem-like formation, which is key to bypassing many obstacles throughout the game, including taking on bosses. All three Link’s will share a Life Meter as well, really necessitating that they look after each other.
Despite the co-op emphasis, The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes is playable solo, with players using replica Link’s in place of actual players, if they have nobody to play with. The co-op is being offered both online as well as locally however, though voice chat won’t be offered for online players. Nintendo has also confirmed that, in a rather surprising twist, The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes has no Amiibo support planned for it, making it the first first-party Nintendo game in a long while to not offer any functionality with the ravenously coveted NFC figures.
