One of the landmark features of Wii U at launch was a service called Nintendo TVii. It was supposed to bring interactive menus and guides to the console and control the non-gaming portion of your television.
Well, fewer people are using Nintendo TVii than ever. That is to say, it never took off, and it’s about to be shut down.
In an FAQ on Nintendo’s website, they’ve stated that “it is time to focus our resources on other projects,” which we can only assume means their upcoming NX platform.
The Kyoto-based company has said that discontinuing the service won’t affect the other video services–Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Crunchyroll, and YouTube–on its platform. Luckily, the TV button on the GamePad will also continue to function as an infrared blaster to power cycle your television.
Nintendo TVii’s last day is August 11, 2015. Additional information about the shutdown is available at Nintendo’s website.
