UPDATE: Following the initial announcement of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 at Microsoft’s E3 conference, EA showed the first actual gameplay at their own conference. While the core online gameplay of the first game is retained in the sequel, more variety has been added, namely with a new co-op mode called ‘Graveyard Ops’ that has a team of four players working together to defend an objective, all as different zombie strains. The classes demonstrated included the Imp, a fast and tiny zombie that can use specialty attacks like pulling a horde of plants together and obliterating them with rapid fire, SuperBrainz, which is durable and very melee-focused, and Captain Deadbeard, a first-ever sniper-themed class for the zombie side. The Imp was also shown being able to use a specialized mech suit to take down an especially deadly plant boss. Afterward, EA also confirmed that Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 would feature some sort of single-player mode as well, unlike its predecessor, though they didn’t have many details on this mode yet.

EA’s surprise hit online shooter is getting another go-around. During Microsoft’s E3 press briefing, the company announced Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2.
As with its predecessor, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is a team-based online third-person shooter. The game will feature all-new combatants for both the Plants and Zombies teams, which was demonstrated with a pre-rendered CG trailer. The carnage unfolded within a twisted suburban neighbourhood that appeared to be renovated by series villain, Dr. Zomboss.
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 was initially confirmed for Xbox One, though EA’s website also lists it as coming to PC and PlayStation 4. Details on the game are currently slight, though it is set for release in Spring 2016.
Alongside this news, EA also confirmed that Xbox Live Gold members can enjoy a week’s worth of free reign on EA Access, for E3 week only! The EA Access vault will also imminently be welcoming both Titanfall and Dragon Age: Inquisition to its ranks.
