Nintendo has detailed its E3 2015 plans as expected this afternoon, with a return of Nintendo Digital Event, Nintendo Treehouse: Live @ E3, as well as Nintendo Access: Mario Maker at Best Buy, all alongside the return of Nintendo World Championships after a 25-year hiatus.
Like last year, Nintendo Digital Event is the company’s version of an E3 press conference, taking place online only in the same format as the year-round Nintendo Direct presentations. At 9 am Pacific time on Tuesday, June 16th, fans and media alike will be treated to an online streaming announcement from Nintendo.
Nintendo Treehouse: Live @E3 is also returning this year, with even more gameplay and developer interviews than it debuted with in 2014. The section of the stage dedicated to Treehouse last year was quite large, so hearing it will be an even bigger event should get fans excited to sink into all that delicious gameplay footage!
This year, Nintendo is giving fans access to Mario Maker during the week of E3 at Best Buys across the United States and Canada. During the show, on June 17th, players will be able to head to their local Best Buy from 4-9 pm, and return on Saturday June 20th from noon through 5 pm for another play through. Players will receive Super Mario Bros. 30th anniversary pins while supplies last. Expect more than a few of those on eBay.
Finally, the return of Nintendo World Championships marks the event’s first revival since its last in 1990. The Championships will actually be the first event to kick of E3 2015, beginning on Sunday, June 14th, before E3 actually opens, and while few details are available on how it will all work, President of Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime is promising to crown the 2015 Nintendo World Champion. So that’s something.
We will of course be live in Los Angeles to cover all the latest and greatest from Nintendo and every other newsmaker at the show this year. Expect our official coverage to begin the week leading up to E3 2015, with some E3 retrospectives tossed in ahead of time for good measure.
In the meantime, head over to the re-launched e3.nintendo.com for all the details on the company’s events at E3 2015!
