Warner Bros. certainly didn’t waste time finding a new helmer for their Wonder Woman movie, following Michelle MacLaren bowing out of the project over creative differences. MacLaren has already been replaced by Patty Jenkins, best known for writing and directing award-winning 2003 drama movie, Monster.
Ironically, Jenkins almost scored another comic book movie gig with DC’s competitor, Marvel, when she was initially set to helm 2013’s Thor: The Dark World. Also ironic is that she ended up exiting that project over creative differences, later being replaced by Game of Thrones director, Alan Taylor. It’s reported that female lead, Natalie Portman was very unhappy about Jenkins’ departure, and would have walked out of the movie, had her contract not bound her to return as Thor’s human love interest, Jane Foster.
Since Monster, Jenkins has largely done television work, much like MacLaren. She has directed episodes of Arrested Development, Entourage and The Killing, among a couple of other things.
Details remain non-existent about the Wonder Woman movie, beyond the knowledge that Gal Gadot will portray the title heroine, debuting the character in next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It’s unknown where in the DC Cinematic Universe timeline the movie takes place, as well as the ratio of time it will spend in the human world, and/or Wonder Woman’s mythical homeland of Themyscira.
Wonder Woman is scheduled to hit theatres on June 23rd, 2017.
