Metal Gear creator, Hideo Kojima, and his team at Kojima Productions, have teased a first look at the revised Metal Gear Online game that will debut as the multiplayer mode for next year’s monstrously anticipated sequel, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. As promised, The Game Awards has just given us our first taste of the game’s online multiplayer suite, with Kojima and new Snake actor, Kiefer Sutherland helping to present.
The multiplayer game was demonstrated by showing a player character cycling through numerous character skins, before settling on Snake himself. From there, a team of players is shown combining stealth and team tactics to battle it out in a sand-swept ruin. The new Metal Gear Online is being dubbed ‘Tactical Team Operations’.
While Metal Gear Online initially debuted in PlayStation 3 exclusive, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (and has since been shut down), the new Metal Gear Online planned for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain appears to be far more detailed. Players are able to distract opponents with adorable stuffed puppy dogs, and can even incorporate the Fulton air delivery system to whisk them away, though teammates are able to shoot the balloon down, as demonstrated in the trailer. Players are even able to summon Metal Gear mechs as support tools, and can use their turrets as a way to mow down enemies quickly and effectively.
The trailer ended with a cute moment of Snake subduing Revolver Ocelot, and taking a selfie for the audience.
Metal Gear Online will be available in all five versions of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is specifically set to launch for PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, at some point in 2015.
