Universal dates The Huntsman, delays The Mummy

Universal has just placed two of their biggest blockbusters for 2016, though the placement of one means the delay of another.

Universal’s reboot of adventure/horror franchise, The Mummy has been delayed to June 24th, 2016. It was previously set to release on April 22nd, 2016. Now, The Huntsman, a prequel to 2012’s Snow White and the Huntsman that focuses entirely on its title character, has taken the April 22nd, 2016 date.

The Mummy - Promo ArtThe Mummy is currently without a cast, but is claimed to be more dark and serious in tone than Universal’s previous reboot of the series, which was more friendly to general audiences and slightly comedic in tone. The Brendan Fraser-starring former The Mummy series saw two reasonably successful installments, and then an ill-received bomb with 2008’s latest The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

The Huntsman meanwhile has already tapped Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron to reprise their roles as huntsman, Eric and evil queen, Ravenna respectively. It will follow the fates of the two characters before Snow White enters either of their lives. Kristen Stewart is not set to return for this new prequel, which would seem to indicate that Snow White is perhaps not even mentioned in the new movie.
