Those anticipating the big screen debut of DC’s goddess of truth in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice got their first taste of Gal Gadot’s take on Diana Prince/Wonder Woman at Comic-Con today. You can check out the first official image of the character below:
The costume seems to do away with many familiar elements of the character’s comic book incarnation, including the red, white and blue colour scheme. The boots and crown feel true to the character’s well-known DC Comics design, but everything else feels more akin to how we perceive Amazon women in myth, rather than any kind of consistency with how DC has portrayed Wonder Woman in the past.
Given some of the radical changes to Superman’s outfit in the DC Cinematic Universe however, some tweaks to Wonder Woman’s threads are no doubt expected. Regardless, it’s a great costume, and should be wonderful to see in motion on the big screen!
Gadot will pioneer the DC Cinematic Universe take on Wonder Woman alongside Henry Cavill’s Superman and Ben Affleck’s Batman in the upcoming sequel to last year’s Superman reboot movie, Man of Steel. The reveal of Gadot in costume was accompanied by a short teaser video, showing Ben Affleck’s Batman shining the Bat Signal into the skies of Gotham City, whereupon a flying Superman stared him down with heat vision at the ready. The movie’s logo then simply followed. A short, sweet and frustratingly vague teaser indeed.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is currently set to hit theatres on May 6th, 2016, where it’s still set to square off against Marvel’s currently-untitled third Captain America movie.
