Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor moved up

With all of these difficult delays on anticipated next-gen games, it’s about time that we had a game release sooner for once!

MESOM - Gameplay 1Thankfully, Warner Bros. has bucked the disappointing trend of games slipping down the calendar continually by doing just that. Their anticipated Lord of the Rings prequel game, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor will actually release sooner than expected! The console versions of the game are now scheduled for release on September 30th, rather than October 7th. The PC version, meanwhile is set to arrive on October 2nd.

The decision no doubt comes from October being a very crowded month for game releases at this point. With EA shifting Dragon Age: Inquistion into November and Battlefield: Hardline out of 2014 entirely however, games seem to have more room to breathe during that month.

Warner Bros. appears to be capitalizing on the opportunity to give Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor a sales boost, by placing it away from numerous other hotly anticipated games that it was once sharing the date with, including Alien: Isolation, DriveClub, Project Spark and NBA 2K15. That’s not even considering that games like Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, Evolve, The Evil Within and Fantasia: Music Evolved are releasing in proximity of October 7th, and would all be far more likely to steal gamers’ funds for themselves.MESOM - Gameplay 2

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is an epic action-adventure game with RPG elements, one that casts players in the role of Talion, an undead ranger of Gondor who seeks vengeance on his family’s killers by venturing into Mordor, directly before the events of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It features a revolutionary new “Nemesis system”, which gives enemies their own unique personalities and combat habits, though developer, Monolith Productions cautions that the mechanic will be considerably watered down in the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is to release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
