Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare coming to PS4

After releasing some tongue-in-cheek posters of Plants vs. Zombies characters in place of familiar PlayStation games, PopCap has confirmed the obvious implication; Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare is officially coming to PlayStation platforms.

Even better is that PlayStation gamers won’t have to wait long to enjoy the zany online shooter! The game is set to release on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 on August 19th of this year. Better still is that the new PlayStation releases will come with the Garden Variety and Zomboss Down DLC packs included for free.

Currently exclusive to Xbox platforms since its debut in February, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare recently introduced microtransactions to its in-game economy, and is set to receive a PC version on June 24th. The Xbox One version exclusively features split-screen multiplayer and second-screen mobile functionality, and the PlayStation 4 version will maintain these perks, using the PlayStation App for the Xbox One version’s much-touted Boss Mode.

PopCap also confirmed that the PlayStation 4 build of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare will run at native 1080p HD resolution, and animate at a full 60fps. Predictably, it will also support the ability to share gameplay footage and screenshots on Facebook, Twitter and PlayStation Network via the Share Button, and will allow players to play on their PlayStation Vita via Remote Play functionality.

The PlayStation 3 version will likely just be a beat-for-beat port of the Xbox 360 version, without these extra bonuses. The fundamental gameplay and DLC will still be maintained however.

It’s likely that we’ll get first looks at these upcoming PlayStation ports, along with the upcoming PC port, at E3 this year. EA, the owners of PopCap, may address the upcoming new platform releases during their E3 keynote presentation on June 9th, at 12:00 P.M. PDT/3:00 P.M. EST. Be sure to tune in for potential news on Plants vs. Zombies, among many other EA-owned gaming brands.
