It’s not the Halo movie, but it’s something.
According to Microsoft, Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions will work alongside with Xbox Entertainment Studios and 343 Industries to create a “digital feature project” around the Halo universe.
At this point, we have no idea just what a “digital feature project” is, and it seems that no one else really does, either. We’re going to go ahead and say it’ll be like Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn but perhaps be a digital-only release, or maybe even be entirely computer animated like the Halo: Legends series.
As for the protagonist, it will not be Master Chief, but it will be a “surgically-enhanced super soldier”. So, Master Chief then, just not John-117.
It is unclear at this point whether the project will tie in with the Halo television series announced in May at the Xbox One reveal event, though it might be setting the stage for the project. The director of the digital feature is Sergio Mimica-Gezzan of Battlestar Galactica and Heroes, and he has worked with Steven Spielberg, producer on the Halo TV series, on many of his films.
We’re enthusiastic that we’ll be getting more details about the project or the television series (or both) alongside what is hopefully Halo 2 Anniversary and Halo 5 for Xbox One at E3 2014, and we’ll keep you posted with all the news as it happens!
