While Deus Ex: The Fall has been widely considered to be a gamer-friendly mobile game that adapts a beloved series for smartphones and tablets and actually does it well, there’s still a good chunk of Deus Ex fans who would prefer to play the game on a dedicated gaming platform. Well, after a recent leak, publisher, Square Enix has just confirmed that they’ll officially be getting their wish!
Deus Ex: The Fall will be re-released on Steam, and it certainly won’t be some slapdash port of its mobile cousin on the App Store and Google Play Store either! The game is being re-tooled and optimized for the PC platform, packing in Steam achievements, Steam trading cards, and the option to play with full gamepad support, on top of the expected mouse-and-keyboard controls. That should certainly be a more comfortable alternative than scrunching your hands onto the touch-only control of a teeny smartphone screen!
Even better news for PC gamers is that Deus Ex: The Fall’s Steam version will be removing the microtransactions in the original mobile release. The game will be rebalanced on PC to accommodate the removal of in-app purchases.
Deus Ex: The Fall centers on Ben Saxon in the year 2027, a cyber-enhanced mercenary that was formerly a soldier of the SAS. The story picks up immediately where the in-canon novel, Deus Ex: Icarus Effect leaves off, specifically unfolding both before and concurrently with the events of Adam Jensen’s story in the series’ previous proper game offering, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, originally released for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2011, and given an enhanced 2013 re-release for these platforms, as well as Wii U.
Did you play Deus Ex: The Fall on mobile devices? Do you think that the experience will be preferable on PC? Do you care about this re-release at all? You’re welcome to leave your comments below.
Deus Ex: The Fall will come to Steam on March 25th, for $9.99. As a limited time offer, those who make an early purchase of the game’s Steam edition will also receive a free download of Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition, the idealized release of the series’ original game. Not a bad deal!
