Lots of movie news today, folks. Lots. And lots.
Marvel Studios has confirmed to Variety that they’re (sort of) working on a film revolving around Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow from The Avengers.
So far, Captain America and Iron Man have had their own story lines in solo films, and it looks like Johansson will have her own if plans don’t fall through when filming likely begins late next year.
These talks could all be a marketing plot to drum up some hype for April’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, though it might be a bit disappointing to fans if there isn’t at least a little truth to the story at this point.
Studio president Kevin Feige told Total Film magazine about Black Widow’s role in the upcoming Avengers flick, Age of Ultron.
[Black] Widow’s part in [The Age of Ultron] is very big. We learn more about her past and learn more about where she came from and how she became in that film. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that. When we meet the Avengers at the top of ‘Age of Ultron,’ it’s a very different landscape than we left them at the end of the first film. Partially, that’s because we love the rhythm that the comicbooks have developed — each of the characters appear in their runs, occasionally they get together for a big event or crossover series, they part again, and then they come back together again.
So far, Age of Ultron hasn’t even been filmed, as it is rearing up for a March 2014 production start. Depending on how well Black Widow is received in that film will likely dictate whether or not a standalone film starring the sexy hero even gets made. With a 2015 release date for Age of Ultron, filming on a Black Widow film could be years away.
We will of course keep you up to date on all the latest from The Avengers, Captain America, Black Widow, and anything else Marvel decides to turn into a film!
