The Lego Movie may have only been out in theatres for a short while, but that’s not stopping Warner Bros. from green lighting its sequel and even setting a release date for the film.
The sequel to The Lego Movie will open in theatres on May 26th, 2017, and Jared Stern, one of the writers on Wreck-It-Ralph is helping with the script, according to Variety.
The original movie took about six years to complete, so with a release of just about three years out, it’s safe to say the production studio is comfortable enough to put together another movie with considerably more speed.
In the two weeks since the film’s theatrical release, it has earned over $200 million worldwide, recouping more than its $60 million budget in its first weekend. The film has earned a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, so it isn’t a surprise that it’s been as successful as it has been.
