Konami revealed a pretty tantalizing bit of promotion for Castlevania fans today, at least, those in the PlayStation camp. In light of the soon-releasing Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 now being available to digitally pre-order on the PlayStation Store, Konami is sweetening the pot for PlayStation 3 gamers that are on the fence.
Specifically, anyone who pre-orders a digital PlayStation 3 copy of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 from the PlayStation Store will receive a free digital download of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate HD!
This is quite the generous incentive, not only allowing would-be PlayStation 3 players to get their hands on a $15 game free of charge, but also giving them the chance to play through the preceding events that set the stage for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2!
Last year, Sony teamed with Disney and Sega to offer a similar PlayStation 3-exclusive promotion for pre-orders of the Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse remake. Anyone who pre-ordered the game from the PlayStation Store received a free emulated digital copy of the original Sega Genesis game that inspired the remake, something that can’t be attained any other way on the PlayStation 3, and was never offered for the PC and Xbox Live Arcade versions.
Sadly, the same is true of this PlayStation-exclusive promotion. The Mirror of Fate HD deal is not being offered for Xbox 360 nor PC, but that’s perhaps predictable. After all, the Xbox 360 doesn’t feature digital pre-orders, and while Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2’s PC version is currently being offered for pre-order on Steam at a slight discount from its full retail price for early purchasers, there doesn’t exist a PC port of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate HD.
The original Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate released last March for the 3DS, where it was met with middling reception, including from us. The game was upgraded and refined this past Halloween for a belated HD re-release as Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate HD on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation 3’s PlayStation Store. A PC version of Mirror of Fate HD was never released however, despite the original Castlevania: Lords of Shadow receiving a belated and enhanced PC version a couple of months earlier, and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 planned for a PC release from the get-go.
Is this tantalizing deal enough incentive to get you to pre-order a digital PlayStation 3 copy of the game? In any case, you have time to decide, as the promotion is available from its start today, and will span all the way to the game’s release date on February 25th.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will also be coming to retail that day, for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A Wii U version is not being made, with developer, MercurySteam citing interest in developing the game for Nintendo’s console, but saying it’s not possible due to staff and resource constraints.
Eggplante will keep snapping your Castlevania news, as it surfaces.
