Kratos will soon be making his debut on the PlayStation Vita, as Sony confirmed today that God of War Collection will be making its way to their handheld on May 6th of this year for North America, and May 8th for Europe.
Packing in HD revisions of God of War and God of War II, originally released for the PlayStation 2 in 2005 and 2007 respectively, the God of War Collection previously released for PlayStation 3 in 2009 and 2010, depending on your territory. This initial release was widely praised as presenting the ideal versions of the first two God of War games, which were later made available standalone as downloadable PlayStation Store games playable on PlayStation 3.
While it’s unclear whether or not God of War Collection on PlayStation Vita may share cross-save capability with its PlayStation 3 counterpart, the PlayStation 3 versions of God of War and God of War II are playable on a PlayStation Vita thanks to a patch that enables Remote Play in the PlayStation 3 releases. Of course, that feature is likely no longer necessary, now that full-fledged PlayStation Vita remasters of both games are on the way.
The European arm of this announcement also confirmed that the PlayStation Vita version of The Sly Collection, which bundles together fellow PlayStation 2 hits, Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, Sly 2: Band of Thieves and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves, would be coming to European territories on April 16th. North American players will have to wait longer however, as they won’t be receiving the PlayStation Vita version of The Sly Collection until May 27th. The compilation has been available on PlayStation 3 since 2010.
Even so, it looks like PlayStation Vita gamers will have a nice trip down memory lane to look forward to in Spring, especially with the chance to take these remastered PlayStation 2 classics properly on the go for the first time!
