While some female icono-pop stars are not doing so well this year – Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, and Miley Cyrus all released albums in the past few weeks and months, each with disappointing sales figures – Beyoncé is here to change that.
With the surprise release of her latest self-title album on iTunes last Friday, the pop goddess sold an unprecedented 828,773 albums in its first three days on the market, demolishing iTunes records for new album sales. The US first week album sales record was also smashed with a figure over 617,000 units.
The album, which shuns the status quo just for existing, is comprised of 14 new tracks and 17 (yes, seventeen) music videos shot around the world. The entire album also managed to avoid being leaked despite how many people were involved in its production.
The entire album costs about $15 or $16 (depending on territory) and includes all content, both audio and video. Beyoncé also manages to work with a ton of artists on this project, including Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Michelle Williams, Kelly Rowland, Drake, Frank Ocean, and her husband, Jay Z, among many others.
