Retailer NewEgg has put up a product page for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS listing a May 16, 2014 release date.
Nintendo News conjects that, while placeholder release dates are common, May 16th is an odd one. And we have to agree. Most sites will list the first or last day of the month or year when no release date has been announced for a game. But May 16th is oddly specific, and for a game that might not take as long to develop as its Wii U counterpart, it might make sense.
Sure, a lot of this is wishful thinking and hoping the game comes sooner rather than later. With that said, Mr. Sakurai is very disciplined in making sure his games are perfect when they’re released, so if this date does turn out to be real, there’s a very real possibility it’ll get pushed back if something’s not up to par.
Here’s hoping we got some more information out of Nintendo this week than we originally planned and that someone isn’t just playing a big joke on us. Either way, we suppose we’re not getting the next entries in the Super Smash Bros. games until they’re absolutely ready.
