Discover how Wildcard has revamped NHL 25’s Hockey Ultimate Team mode

With launch fast approaching, the team behind NHL 25 has released more information about the game.

This time around, the focus is on Wildcard — a new feature that will revamp Hockey Ultimate Team mode. Find out how it works below:

HUT WILDCARD MODE

NHL 25 features a brand-new HUT Wildcard mode that allows players to compete and earn rewards through a singular XP progression path. The mode features challenges that update regularly, so players need to adjust their strategies to unlock instant rewards such as packs, XP, coins, or cosmetic items. Played both on and offline, HUT Wildcard levels the playing field, eliminating the frustration some players might face going up against a highly competitive HUT team with a 99 OVR squad.

REVAMPED PROGRESSION SYSTEM AND REWARDS STRUCTURE

This year, NHL 25 streamlines how in-game rewards are handled through a singular and unified XP progression path. Regardless of which HUT mode players choose, all XP will be funneled into one XP path. So, whether winning in Squad Battles, competing in Rivals, or drafting in Wildcard, players will continue progressing through the XP path that unifies across the three main HUT modes.

REWORKED CARD TIERING, X-FACTOR SERIES AND MORE

NHL 25 has overhauled the card tiering system and player grades to give each league better representation, with star players being front and center and more gold-tier squad members featured from the top leagues.

Bronze – 74 OVR and below
Silver 75-79 OVR
Gold 80+ OVR

X-Factors return for NHL 25, with limited cards allowing players to have their AP cost discounted. We’ll reveal more on this shortly, including new, improved X-Factor cards released for each live service season.

NHL 25 will be released on October 4th.
