You likely heard all of the buzz, ‘leaks’ and rumours about Xbox going multi platform. Well, only a bit of it all was true.
This afternoon, Phil Spencer, Sarah Bond and Matt Booty joined the Xbox Podcast to talk about the state of the business. While doing so, they (sort of) clarified their plans for taking games multi platform.
Don’t worry: the death of Xbox is not imminent.
Although he (oddly) wouldn’t name which games, Phil stated that four titles are going to be ported to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. This will be done to increase their player bases, build their brands and make more money, which could lead to sequels. He mentioned that those games have kind of reached their potential on Xbox.
The Internet believes that the four games in question are:
- Sea of Thieves
- Grounded
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Pentiment
…however, this has not been confirmed.
They did, however, state that Starfield and Indiana Jones will not be going multi platform. Both were part of the rumours and ‘leaks.’
Phil also said some curious things about how he believes we may see fewer exclusive console games in the future, on both Xbox and PlayStation. He also hinted about a new console (revision, most likely) being revealed this holiday season.
Additionally, it was stated that Xbox Game Pass has reached 34 million users.
In all honesty, a lot of words were used to say very little.
