Described as being a “tactical, open world, extraction shooter” set in an environment that’s been “ripped apart by apocalyptic forces of nature,” Exoborne is a new game from folks who worked on Tom Clancy’s The Division. It was revealed tonight, and showed off some of its forces of nature, including wicked tornadoes, in its debut trailer. Landslides, lightning storms, and earthquakes will also factor into this game, which is set in the southeastern United States.
In this game we’ll play as Reborn, who are human survivors that have been given special implants, which allow them to control suits of armor called exo-rigs.
“You are what you carry,” said Petter Mannerfelt, creative director on Exoborne and former game director of The Division during his tenure at Ubisoft.
Expect to drop into different locations throughout Colton County, in order to scavenge for resources and technology. While doing so you’ll fight bandits and other players amidst wicked weather. You won’t be able to escape, either, until you reach an extraction point with your loot, though this isn’t a ‘looter shooter.’
Of course, each exo-rig will have its own pros and cons and abilities. The game will also feature multiplayer elements, like PVP, but can be completed by one’s lonesome. Furthermore, it’ll be a paid game with live service elements and content updates.
Exoborne is coming to PC and consoles, and will do so next year.
