Many longtime Pokefans are on cloud nine today, thanks to a big reveal regarding a sequel to an N64 classic. They call it New Pokemon Snap, and it’s something that lots of people were hoping, pleading and dreaming about.
If you weren’t alive, or old enough to game during the N64 era, you may not be overly familiar with the original. Simply put, Pokemon Snap was a short but sweet experience, wherein players would take part in a digital safari full of Pokemon creatures. As the title suggests, the goal was to take pictures of the majestic beasts, with points being awarded based on photographic composition and overall quality.
It didn’t take long to play through the campaign — maybe two to two-and-a-half hours — but it was very replayable and surprisingly addictive.
Little is known about the (new) mechanics found in New Pokemon Snap. That said, we do know that it’s coming to Nintendo Switch, and that it will be a sequel. One that’s currently in development at BANDAI NAMCO Studios of all places.
That’s right, Trainers—#PokemonSnapIsBack! #NewPokemonSnap is an all-new adventure inspired by the classic Nintendo 64 game.

Here’s the very familiar premise, which Nintendo did share earlier today:
Travel to unknown islands with beautiful scenery like lush jungles and sandy beaches. The Pokémon pictures you take there will be used to build your very own Pokémon Photodex! This brand-new game brings the gameplay of the 1999 Pokémon Snap game for the Nintendo 64 system to life on the Nintendo Switch system with unknown islands to discover and different Pokémon to see!
Photograph lively wild Pokémon in their natural habitats as you research and explore unknown islands. Journey through a variety of environments such as beaches and jungles to capture previously-unseen Pokémon behaviors. The photos you take can also be used to fill out your very own Pokémon Photodex!
Stay tuned for more information.
