Ubisoft has gone the live action route with its latest marketing for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. In fact, they’ve gone so far as to recruit celebrities, including rapper Lil Wayne, who stars in the new video.
Portraying a party leader who’s trying to combat a treacherous warzone with his friends, Lil Wayne features prominently in this humorous and extended ad, which is referred to as ‘Squad Up.’ Said video was actually shot in Vancouver, British Columbia, and was directed by David Leitch, who helmed Deadpool 2 and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.
“More than anything, the key point of all action is to tell a story, and in this spot we’re telling a story with these characters in the world of the game and also the characters in their worlds at home,” said David Leitch. “We wanted to make sure we have these distinct characters that jump off the page and that the action defines them in a real, particular way. We have this fun juxtaposition with the different characters and their voices, too, which is a great conceit.”
The Squad Up television ad will air nationally, to promote the impending launch of Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, which will occur on October 4th. It will be especially noticeable during Thursday Night Football on October 3rd, and WWE Smackdown on October 4th.
An open beta will also take place between September 26th and 30th.
