As promised, Activision took to YouTube and Twitch today, to reveal Call of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s multiplayer suite. In doing so they confirmed beta dates, crossplay functionality, modes and an overhauled weapons system.
Through its multiplayer theatre, this rebooted Call of Duty: Modern Warfare promises everything from quick-action, 2v2 close quarters experiences in Gunfight, to more traditional 6v6 modes, as well as game types that support 10v10 or 20v20 firefights. Its all new Ground War scenario will even support more than 100 players, in a large-scale format.
Infinity Ward also went into more detail regarding its revamped Gunsmith weapons mode, which was teased earlier this summer through a short trailer. With it, they promise ‘unprecedented customization and modifiability’ of weapons. This will complement the shooter’s bullet penetration, gun mounting, door breaching, night vision multiplayer maps and tactical experiences. Not to mention its customizable operators.
Some of the above-mentioned content was shown off in Modern Warfare‘s brand new multiplayer trailer, which fittingly utilizes the song ‘Enter Sandman’ by Metallica. You can see it above all of this text stuff.
“Our goal with Modern Warfare is to bring all gamers together from day one to play together,” said Patrick Kelly, Creative Director and co-Studio Head, Infinity Ward. “We’re doing away with the season pass; we’re delivering a mix of free maps, a ton of content following launch, and we’re developing the game for crossplay. We’re live-testing now, and fans will get to try for themselves next month in the Beta. This is a new day for Call of Duty multiplayer, and today is just the start — we have many more exciting reveals coming for fans that we can’t wait to share.”
In addition to gameplay options, mechanics and other details, they also confirmed beta test dates for different platforms. Crossplay will also get its own tests.
