Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is set to change things up, by utilizing 2.5D platforming stages in lieu of the fully 3D worlds that existed in the original game. There will, however, still be a 3D overworld to explore.
Today, Team17 released a brand new trailer for the game, which shows how many of its 20-something stages can be drastically altered. Within its short, two minute-long run time, you’ll see Yooka-Laylee change the composition of certain stages, by finding secrets and solving puzzles. When they do this, the stages will flood, freeze or fall victim to other elements.
It’s a neat twist, which essentially creates new versions of each level.
We’ll be able to fool around with this mechanic ourselves, when Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair releases in Q4 2019.
