Following all of the talk about new content heading The Division 2‘s way, Ubisoft took a moment to switch to another medium: film. Upon doing so, they revealed that Netflix has purchased the rights to, and is developing, a movie based on The Division. A film that will star actors Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal.
The movie adaptation will be based on the first game, and will take place in a future New York City that has been decimated by a pandemic spread via paper money on Black Friday. By Christmastime, the city has broken into chaos, and a group of trained civilians is activated in order to save those who remain.
The Division movie will be directed by David Leitch, who previously worked on Deadpool 2 and Hobbs and Shaw. It will be produced by 87North, Chastain’s Freckle Films, Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories and Ubisoft Film & Television.
