Nintendo’s long-running Pokémon franchise is stepping into a new space in just a few weeks with the launch of Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, the first live-action Pokémon film that is also based on the 2018 Nintendo 3DS title of the same name. (Note: the original game for 3DS came out in Japan in 2016.)
The English-language film was screened for some members of the press in Tokyo, two weeks ahead of its May 10th release, and there is nothing but high praise from these first viewers.
IGN’s Terri Schwartz says the flick “completely nails the world of Pokémon,” while The Nerdist’s Dan Casey calls it “a heartfelt, relentlessly charming story filled with excellent worldbuilding.”
IGN has put together a small collection of reports from Twitter, including the aforementioned ones, to show just how well received this movie is likely to be, and we’d highly recommend having a look!

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu releases on May 9th in Australia and a day later, on May 10th, in North America and Europe.
