Today, it was announced that Annapurna Interactive (the joint film studio and video game publisher that brought us the masterpiece, What Remains of Edith Finch) will be publishing Mobius’ Outer Wilds in 2018.
Having once begun as a student project by lead Alex Beachum, Outer Wilds is a colourful, first-person adventure game. Its subject matter and environmental content pertain to a hand crafted solar system, which just so happens to exist in a strange time loop. As such, players will get to explore unique planets and locations, including an underground city that is about to be swallowed up by sand and a planet that will crumble beneath one’s feet.
To help with their quest, the game’s characters will also have interesting gadgets at their disposal. These will help them probe their surroundings, track down mysterious signals, decipher ancient alien symbols and, of course, roast the perfect marshmallow.
Yes, you read that correctly. You’ll know what we’re talking about when you watch the title’s impressive teaser trailer, which begins with a quirky cosmonaut playing a modified banjo.
Expect to be able to play Outer Wilds on PC sometime later this year.
