Another interesting tidbit that is currently floating around the Internet pertains to talk of a new Fable game. One that may go by the name of Fable 4, and may also be in the works at UK developer Playground Games. For those who aren’t familiar with them, they’re the folks who are responsible for the incredible Forza Horizon series, which is second to none.
According to a post by ResetEra’s Klobrille, which included what was said to be leaked information pertaining to Microsoft’s in-development projects, Fable 4 is in the works. It was also rumoured that said sequel, or reboot, is under the control of Playground Games, now that Lionhead Studios isn’t in the picture anymore. As you’ll likely recall, Microsoft was working on a multiplayer title called Fable Legends, before deciding to can it entirely. Following that, Lionhead — who created the Fable IP back in the original Xbox days — closed their doors.
This ‘leak’ has gained some traction, with Eurogamer and Video Gamer both having done some detective work. Sources close to Eurogamer have stated that Fable 4 is in development, and that Playground Games’ Leamington Spa studio is increasing its staff size to accommodate the project. They’re apparently only in the early stages of development, though, meaning that it’ll likely be a lengthy wait before this thing sees the light of day.
If true, this is great news for those of us who loved the story-driven Fable games. Given Playground’s pedigree, it’s also hard not to expect something great, so here’s hoping that they’ll deliver in spades.
