Perhaps I’d been living under a proverbial rock, but I was unaware of the fact that Elijah Wood had started a film and entertainment production company called Spectrevision in 2010. As such, his appearance at Ubisoft’s E3 2017 showcase was a big surprise to me, even if it only came in video form.
Frodo Baggins, himself, appeared today in order to promote his strange psychological horror experience, Transference. However, as is often the case at this event, few details were given and all we got was an unnerving, VHS-style tease that used subtle but tricky effects that were reminiscent of the sixties and seventies.
Transference invites us to “enter the home of the mind,” and did so with discussion regarding past science experiments that targeted the brain and the memories within it. At least, that’s what I got from its strange and cryptic reveal.
Elijah Wood’s part game, part film experiment will be released in 2018, when Transference makes its way to PS4, Xbox One and PC, as well as the HTC Vive, PlayStation VR and Oculus Rift.
