It seems like the rumours were true, as Bethesda looks poised to announce The Evil Within 2 during tonight’s E3 press conference. In fact, I’d go so far as to bet on it if someone asked me to.
Although the possibility of a sequel has been talked about and hoped for on message boards, nothing has been said in any sort of official capacity. Reddit users have outed the spooky sequel, however, after noticing banner ads on the site that offered the ability to place an early pre-order. Of course, as one would expect, said advertisements were lying about that, because they were pushed ahead of schedule and weren’t supposed to appear for another day or so.
The ad in question featured the following text, in addition to a logo:
“Bethesda returns you to the nightmare in The Evil Within 2. Now available for preorder. How will you survive?”
Furthermore, there has been talk about a second ad, although I’ve yet to see it. Gematsu is responsible for this report, and has provided that banner’s text as well.
It reads:
“From survival horror mastermind Shinji Mikami comes The Evil Within 2. Now available for preorder. ‘The only way out is in.'”
Surely this isn’t just a coincidence or a costly mistake. Advertising isn’t cheap, and if something is advertised on such a big site it’s gotta’ be legit. At least, in 99.9% of cases. These ads are good news, too, as not only will tonight’s announcement make fans of the original happy, but those same folks will be delighted to hear the director Shinji Mikami has returned for the sequel.
Stay tuned for more information pertaining to The Evil Within 2 as it develops. For now, let’s just hope that the second game in this nightmarish series will end up being a more fleshed out, even and enjoyable experience than its frustrating predecessor.
