Surprising no one, EA’s EA Play press conference today saved the much-anticipated Star Wars: Battlefront II for its grand finale. The upcoming first-person shooter follow-up has previously promised an all-new single-player story campaign and a complete lack of a Season Pass, with no single-player campaign and an overpriced Season Pass amid an anemic base game being frequent criticisms of EA’s original Star Wars: Battlefront reboot from 2015. EA re-affirmed this stance on both counts at their EA Play keynote, but also surprised audiences with an even more bold post-launch content plan; Star Wars: Battlefront II will be sustained by free DLC!
After showing off a story campaign that will provide a bridging tale taking place between Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, along with confirming space combat and multiplayer skirmishes that span all current canonical eras of Star Wars, EA confirmed that a first ‘season’ of free content for Star Wars: Battlefront II will begin this December. The free additions to the game will add new multiplayer characters like Finn and Captain Phasma, and will tie in with this December’s big screen movie release, Star Wars: The Last Jedi. This free season of content will also include a space combat map above the planet, D’Qar, as well as a ground-based map on Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s new planet setting, Crait. Additional planets, heroes, vehicles, weapons and play modes are also promised as free DLC for Star Wars: Battlefront II in the future.
Star Wars: Battlefront II will release on November 17th of this year, and will come to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
